I’m Headed for the Smart Living ‘Big Leagues’

September 15, 2015

I’m in the game.  I have added home monitoring cameras to my life.  This was my first step.

Motion detection and activation shows me when someone comes to my front door, when the kids run into the playroom, when my teenager climbs out the window of his room at 1am or goes to the kitchen for a midnight snack, when my dog jumps up on the couch in the living room, when the baby wakes up and starts rolling around in his crib or stands in his crib while hanging on to the safety rail.

The fish-eye lens of one camera gives me a broader view of the back patio so that I can see the whole garden.  Sound activation in the ‘Baby Cam’ lets me know when the baby is awake and starts to make noise or cry.  Triggered camera events can be recorded and I can playback events that happened earlier that I did not have a chance to see or want to check for details.

I receive notification of these events on my smartphone when cameras are triggered.  This makes it very convenient and easy for me to keep an eye on things around my home.

These detections and notifications are fantastic and have made a huge difference in my life.  However, when I integrate them with other elements of Smart Living, combining them in one place with my other connected devices, they become an even more useful and convenient means of security, safety, peace of mind and ease of living.

Let me explain.  When the doorbell rings, I can see from my couch a pop-up window on the TV screen that it is the pizza delivery (I ordered my dinner while I am writing this).  The front door camera has been activated by activity/motion, I have my Makook system settings arranged to notify me onscreen.  I pop open the widget to quickly view the front door camera feed, see that it is the pizza man and activate the front door unlock to let him in with my hot food.  The ‘bummer’ is that I still have to get up to pay him until the electronic payment capabilities of the restaurants catch up with my Makook and smartphone (coming very soon I expect).

When the baby wakes and starts to move around or cry, I receive a notification that the camera in his room has been triggered.  I have also set up a scene linked to this trigger that gradually brings up a soft light in the baby’s room and turns on a rotating, hanging mobile and music with some of his favorite stuffed, colorful, flying characters to help him wake more peacefully while my wife and I go to check on him and get him something to eat.  I also have his electric train set in his room on another smart switch so that I can turn that on to entertain him at times as well, as it chugs along singing its happy little tune, and turn it off when he falls asleep.

I have also set up a ‘welcome home’ scene to turn on lights, turn on the water heater, turn on the A/C, unlock the front door and even to turn on My Music.  I have set this scene to be initiated when the front door camera is triggered as I come up the front walk.  So, I activate this scene on my way home and it goes into action as I approach my front door.  This is a personal indulgence I admit, but it helps me save energy, and money, so that I do not have to leave A/C and water heaters running for no reason, and is a convenience at the end of a long day that brings a little smile to my face as I arrive home.

I am very happy with my setup, the security of the system itself and even more pleased about the ease with which I was able to set up my scenes and personalize things the way I wanted them.  I accomplished this through Makook.  Makook Smart Living has connected my cameras, automation devices, entertainment and more in one place and made it easy for me to feel not only that I’m in the game, so to speak, but also a bit of a star performer.  And Living Smarter is a nice feeling.

Makook is connected; we provide the first managed service delivery platform to enable ubiquitous and simple access and interactions between people, data, services and devices.  This delivers what others have only promised: a truly seamless connected life where everyone and everything speak the same ‘digital language’ and interact in ways never possible before.

Makook is instrumented; we deliver entertainment, education, health and wellness, a private cloud, home security, automation, energy management, and enhanced communication services, all on a single managed platform.  From devices like mobile/smartphones, TVs, tablets and PCs to utilities like security systems, thermostats, and glucometers, everything lives on the same platform and speaks the same language.

Makook is intelligent; we are not a technology company or even about technology.  Instead, we are about bringing meaningful lifestyle experiences to people in a new world of hyper-connected devices.
