LaCie’s rugged drive just got an upgrade

April 12, 2015

The LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt hard drive now comes in a 1 TB capacity.

I remember seeing LaCie’s Thunderbolt hard drive a few years back and wondering how tough it claims to be. It managed to be one of the best drives I have tested. Now the latest iteration of the LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt hard drive has gotten an upgrade – in the tune of 1 TB.

Utilizing the latest technologies offered by SSDs (Solid State Drives) the drive can deliver speeds of up to 387 MB/s which is claimed to be three times faster than a standard hard drive.

“Wherever digital content is created and wherever our customers want to travel to capture and collect it, our LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt drive will go as the ideal companion,” said Erwan Girard, Business Unit Manager for LaCie.

The LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt hard drive can also withstand accidental drops of up to 2 meters and is IP 54-rated, meaning it can withstand dust and splashes. Aside from Thunderbolt, the drive also includes support for USB 3.0 connections, making it ideally compatible with both Mac and Windows platforms.

The 1 TB version of the LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt hard drive will set you back at about $949 (3486 AED).
