As a father of two young children, one of the aspects of education that I wish could be addressed is the digressive impact of social media. Technology is a part of the everyday class room today, yet students as a natural progression tend to let their attention wander as they check for social media updates during class times.


In this sense, Lock&Stock makes sense. A mobile app aimed at enriching the education experience for students, the application is designed to work within university campuses and switches off student’s social media feeds allowing them to concentrate during class. The more time students spend offline and disconnected, they accumulate points which can then be redeemed at partner outlets.

jcrop-previewAptly enough, it was conceptualized by a 21 year old, co-founder Craig Fernandes.

The process is fairly simple. When students enter the classroom, they open Lock&Stock and lock their phones (from within the app). This blocks the users’ notifications from all social media platforms. The longer a user’s phone is locked, the more points he or she earns. To prevent non-students from using the app, Lock&Stock is programmed to only work on college and university campuses.

Lock&Stock have teamed up with more than 50 partner brands across the fashion, food, entertainment and wellness industries, and users can redeem their points for offers and promotions.

Lock&Stock is now available as a free download on iOS and Android.
