Looks like DJI is working on a modular camera system

June 30, 2020

A few patents filed by DJI have leaked, and they show some intriguing directions the brand might be going into. Leaked via OsitaLV on Twitter, the new patents point to a camera module that can be swapped out and used on various DJI products along with the internals of what looks to be an optical image stabilization (OIS) system for the camera module.

From the images and a rough translation of the write up on the patent, it looks like the camera module can tilt up and down. The camera also looks to be enclosed is some sort of casing, which could suggest it has been designed to take impact, possibly for a DJI racing drone. Which leads us to believe this could mean a modular version of the rather fantastic DJI Osmo Action.

Now the DJI Mavic 3 is one drone that we have been looking forward to, and the rumors have included OcuSync 2.0, 5K video and ActiveTrack 3.0. Now if this leak is to be believed, DJI could well introduce a whole new optical image stabilization (IOS) system with a sensor and lens mount on the same unit. An optically stabilized sensor with interchangeable lenses? Sounds like a plan!
