Meet the OUYE – China’s ‘hybrid’ console

August 17, 2015

If you ever wanted an Xbox One and a PS4 merged into one console, this is it.

A console has been getting the rounds online but not for the right reason. Kotaku reports that the OUYE is crowdfunding its new console in China’s version of Kickstarter.

Just looking at the console will already raise eyebrows for seasoned gamers. Why? The OUYE (I wonder if they named it after the ill-fated Android console OUYA) is a mashup of the designs of the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One and runs on a modified version of the Android operating system.

Knock-offs are particularly common in China, especially with high-end gadgets like smartphones and tablets. The similarities are also present on the controller, which is almost an exact copy of the Xbox One’s controller.

The funny bit is that the company who made OUYE is saying that it took them 6 months to ‘design’ the console.

Yeah, okay.

The OUYE is looking to sell for $70 that will come bundled with one controller if it manages to get its funds. Problem is most users in China are already bashing the company on social media due to its blatant copying of the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
