A new Xperia is coming, and no it won’t be available in the Middle East
April 4, 2021

Sony’s Xperia 1 III specs have leaked.

The Xperia line may no longer be in the same league as its Android counterparts, but its current iterations are still some of the best we’ve seen in the market. A new leak has confirmed that the upcoming Sony Xperia 1 (Mark) III will debut sometime this month, bringing in hardware that rivals 2021 flagships.

Camera-wise, it is expected that Xperia 1 III will sport a 3x optical zoom lens as well as a periscope camera. This enables the smartphone to offer around 10x optical zoom capabilities. It was also noted that the camera optics will be based on Sony’s own Cyber-shot technology, meaning that images could be as good or better than current cameras. Headlining the camera is the main 64-megapixel sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens.

As for the specifications, expect the Xperia 1 III to run the latest Snapdragon 888 chipset along with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There is also word that a more beefed-up version that will have 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage will be available as a premium variant.

Display-wise, there will be a 6.5-inch OLED panel with a longer 21:9 aspect ratio that is similar to previous Xperia smartphones. It is likely to be a 4K panel as well, supporting HDR and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Sony is expected to announce the Xperia 1 III on April 14 and while we’re excited about the new smartphone, we’re still bummed that it will not be officially available in the Middle East – so you might have to import one if you want to get your hands on it.
