The ultimate gaming smartphone?

Gaming smartphones are now a standard category for mobile devices, and with multiple companies promising the best gaming experience, there are only a few that actually stand out. Enter Asus with their own ROG gaming smartphone, now on its fifth iteration, the Asus ROG Phone 5 brings the best upgrade that you can expect from the gaming-centric company.

The ROG Phone 5 features an AMOLED 144Hz display with a 20.4:9 aspect ratio that is optimized of course for gaming. Inside, you’d probably find the most outrageous hardware you’d find on a smartphone: a Snapdragon 888 SoC, your choice of 8GB/12GB/16GB/18GB of RAM along with 128GB/256GB of storage.

There’s also a massive 6,000mAh dual battery along with 65W fast charging support along with an in-display fingerprint sensor plus dual stereo speakers. There’s also a small OLED display at the back that will show messages or even light up when you’re playing a game.

Much like other gaming smartphones, the ROG Phone 5 has a pair of AirTriggers which are touch-sensitive shoulder buttons. The standard ROG Phone 5 will have nine of these buttons, but the Pro and Ultimate models will have an additional rear touch panel.

For the camera, you’re getting the 64-megapixel main sensor, 13-megapixel ultra-wide, and a 5-megapixel macro camera. There’s also a front-facing 24-megapixel camera. The camera supports up to 8K video recording in addition to 4K 60 fps recording.

It runs Android 11 out of the box, and the ROG Phone 5 lets you choose which UI to choose from: ZenUI or ROG UI. ZenUI brings the more traditional smartphone interface, while ROG UI is made specifically for gaming. It includes an Armory Carate that resembles a console’s dashboard so you can quickly launch your favorite games.

Unfortunately, much like the previous ROG Phones, there’s a good chance that the ROG Phone 5 won’t be available here in the Middle East officially so you may have to import it if you want one. Pricing starts at $950 for that base model and goes all the way up to $1,400 for the top-tier version.
