Sony’s Xperia 1 III brings the world’s first 4K 120Hz OLED display

April 18, 2021

Too bad it’s not releasing here in the Middle East.

Just last weekend Sony has introduces a new refresh to its Xperia smartphone lineup headlined by the Xperia 1 Mark III  along with the Xperia 5 Mark III and the Xperia 10 Mark III. As confusing as those naming systems are, availability and prices were not disclosed, though don’t get your hopes up especially if you’re in the Middle East since Sony has officially discontinued its mobile business in this region.

That’s too bad because the top tier Xperia 1 III undoubtedly is one of the best spec’d smartphones we’ve seen from Sony. It features the world’s first 4K OLED display that also comes with a 120Hz refresh rate, packing that inside a 6.5-inch 21:9 screen. That display alone means it has the same number of pixels as the most current TVs you can buy today.

Unlike other smartphones that play around with the refresh rate to preserve battery life, the Xperia 1 III’s display is permanently fixed at 120Hz, meaning you get that super smooth browsing experience every single time. That means more power consumption though, but Sony has also increased the battery capacity of the smartphone compared to its predecessor and has now include included 30W fast charging that can put the battery at 50 per cent capacity in just half an hour of charging.

It also comes with a triple-camera system that includes a new telephoto lens. The included Photography Pro and Cinematography Pro were also updated to match the new hardware that comes with the Xperia 1 III.

Other specifications of the Xperia 1 III include the Snapdragon 888 CPU, 8GB of RAM, 128GB/256GB of storage with microSD expansion, and a top tier version that will come with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. There’s also 5G support, a 3.5 mm audio jack, USB-C 3.1, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and an IP65/IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
