Musa Tariq, the former social media director of Burberry and Nike, has been hired by Apple to take the title of “Digital Marketing Director.”
The move was additionally confirmed on Tariq’s Twitter page stating: “First day of school. Hope the other kids like me!” It’s no surprise social media was used to further spread the news.
This isn’t the first time we hear about Apple welcoming a new member from the fashion world into its family. If you recall, last year, Apple hired the former CEO of Yves Saint Laurent, Paul Deneve, to particularly work on “special projects.”
In an even closer relation to Apple’s new team member, the company’s head of retail, Angela Ahrendts is the former CEO of Burberry.
Apple already has accounts on Facebook and Twitter for iTunes, so we’re anticipating the changes Tariq may be bringing about, but are still unsure about their extent. However, although Apple is pretty active on social media, in comparison to other companies in the industry, it could improve on increasing its presence.
We could expect Tariq to take the same angle of work he applied at Nike, which involved pushing for marketing in-house on social media rather than reaching for external agencies.
Only time can tell on how Tariq will play a role in additionally advertising the renowned brand. We’re eager to see what’s in store.
