D5 boasts major sensor design and autofocus advances
Claimed as the most powerful camera in Nikon’s history, the brand launched the flagship D5 at Photography LIVE 2016.
The latest Nikon-FX format DSLR camera boasts a new 153-point autofocus system with a 180K-pixel RGB sensor for the Advanced Scene Recognition System. Visual aesthetics are heightened with the collaboration of a new Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor and a new EXPEED 5 image-processing engine, both developed by Nikon, with up to an ISO of 102400.
To ensure an easier workflow process, the 20.8-megapixel D5 has a high-resolution touch screen LCD monitor, fast communications with both wired networks via built-in Ethernet connector and wireless networks, alongside double memory card slots.
At the event, attendees were treated to a session with Nikon Ambassador and wildlife photographer Thomas Vijayan, who gave a short presentation on his work captured across the world. He said “The D5 can capture stunning visuals due to significant advancements in sensor design, autofocus, metering, and image processing. As a wildlife photographer, the camera is a perfect choice for me because it helps me capture mesmerizing images that narrate stories.”
Takashi Yoshida, Managing Director for Nikon Middle East, commented, “We are delighted to be a part of Photography LIVE, a great initiative that brings the photography community together to share ideas, technology, and creative insights. We believe that it is the perfect platform for the launch of our FX-format flagship DSLR, the Nikon D5, in the region. The D5 brings ground-breaking imaging power to the photographers and enables them to capture spellbinding moments. The moment could be a runner crossing the finishing line or sun rising across Dubai’s horizon. Whatever the scenario, the camera outperforms the expectations by delivering a potent fusion of extensive image capturing power alongside a detailed and immediate acquisition performance.”
“At Photography LIVE, we have also had the opportunity to engage with young and seasoned photography enthusiasts through our Nikon School sessions. The twelve sessions organized in association with renowned photographers highlight different aspects of photography and videography ranging from adventure and landscape to fashion and portraits,” added Narendra Menon, GM Sales & Marketing for Nikon Middle East.
The Nikon D5 is available now with all major retailers across the UAE. The camera is available in two versions, one that uses two XQD cards and one that uses two CompactFlash cards at a starting price of 27,999 AED.
Photography LIVE runs from May 7-9, at the Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC)
