Nokia 8.1 officially announced: premium features, midrange price

The newest smartphone had an official launch in Dubai.

HMD Global has officially announced the Nokia 8.1, the company’s latest midrange offering that has the features of the high-end flagship. The Nokia 8.1 is made from a 6000-series aluminum frame that is part of the two-tone design. It is powered by a Snapdragon 710 SoC that offers a 20 percent increase on performance compared to the previous generation.

Other specifications include a 6.18-inch PureView Display that also supports HDR10 for the darkest blacks and brightest whites that’s perfect when watching videos. The Nokia 8.1 also has a dual camera setup that includes a 12-megapixel main camera with ZEISS Optics plus a 13-megapixel depth sensor. It also supports Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) along with superfast autofocus along with a wide aperture so you can easily take images in low light. The Nokia 8.1 is also able to capture 4K video at 30 fps.

Like the other smartphones on Nokia’s lineup, the Nokia 8.1 is part of the Android One program that offers a stock Google experience that was previously only available on Google-branded devices. It also means that the Nokia 8.1 will receive two years’ worth of OS upgrades along with three years of software and security patches. It will run Android 9.0 Pie out of the box.

The Nokia 8.1 will come in three color combinations: Blue/Silver, Steel/Copper, and Iron/Steel. It will be released on December 15th and will retail for 1,499 AED. Pre-booking is now available on local retails stores including Jumbo, Axiom, and Sharaf DG.
