Pebble: 1 million smartwatches sold

February 4, 2015

New hardware and software to be introduced this year.

Pebble’s success continues to grow after the confirmation that it has sold more than 1 million smartwatches. In fact, the 1 millionth Pebble watch was shipped on December 31 of last year.

With that, the company announced that it will be introducing a new smartwatch this year along with new software – with Pebble bosses saying that the new software is unlike anything we’ve seen before. That kind of rules out the Pebble will be using Android Wear on their future smartwatches.

Android Wear currently is only compatible with Android devices running Android KitKat and up while the Pebble smartwatch offers support for both iOS and Android. While the Pebble smartwatch only offers an e-ink display, it can last for about 7 days on a single charge, a feat most smartwatches are unable to accomplish.

Additionally, with the Apple Watch launching sometime next month, Pebble is in for some stiff competition.
