Riot Games is bringing a ‘League of Legends’ festival to Saudi Arabia

A new immersive festival is coming to Saudi Arabia – dubbed ‘The Nexus’, this festival is Riot Games’ first official event in the MENA region. The Nexus will run from December 5-7 and is part of the Riyadh Season which is an initiative set by the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) to transform Saudi Arabic into a global tourist destination.

The festival will be themed around League of Legends where various experimental zones, tournaments and even concerts will be happening. The Nexus is expected to draw more than 30,000 visitors. Additionally, a total of $2,000,000 in total prizes across six competitions can be won. The primary competition is ‘five versus five’ summoners rift where the prize money that can be won amounts to $850,000.

Music will also be the core offering for The Nexus, where visitors can enjoy shows and other visual experiences that will be presented by international artists. 

Commenting on the announcement Onur Tamer, METAI General Manager at Riot Games said: “We opened our offices in the region over a year ago. Since then, we have been working on ways to deliver local experiences to our communities and players across the MENA region. The Nexus is our first step in solidifying our presence in the region to support and celebrate our players.”

“The launch of The Nexus festival is just one part of our plan to increase our presence in the MENA region. We are also looking at rolling out Arabic language support for all our products starting next year along with a localized version of League of Legends for all our players.”
