It will be powered by the company’s own Tizen operating system.

Samsung is making another smartwatch – but this time it won’t be running on Android Wear. Instead, the new smartwatch will be powered by the company’s own Tizen operating system that has been present on some of their entry-level smartphones.

The Samsung Gear A smartwatch will be positioned to compete with the Moto 360 and Huawei’s upcoming top pf the line Android Wear smartwatch. one distinguishing characteristic that this smartwatch will have is a rotating bezel which will be used to navigate the menus.

The Samsung Gear A will also run on an Exynos 3472 processor along with 4 GB of storage. The screen will have 360 x 360 pixels and is poised to offer 3G connectivity as well so it can operate without the need for a smartphone.

While there is no release date set for the device, it could possibly be part of the upcoming ‘Unpacked’ event that Samsung will be having in New York City on August 13.
