BlackBerry formally acknowledges the Priv by BlackBerry, which will be the company’s first smartphone. It will officially run Android along with an enhanced BlackBerry security features we know and love.
A Q2 Fiscal 2016 results report confirmed the release. “Today, I am confirming our plans to launch Priv, an Android device named after BlackBerry’s heritage and core mission of protecting our customers’ privacy. Priv combines the best of BlackBerry security and productivity with the expansive mobile application ecosystem available on the Android platform,” said Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John Chen.
While not much details were revealed, BlackBerry has released high res images of the Priv, showing the all familiar BlackBerry keyboard we all love which now features a large touchscreen bearing the familiar Android interface.
