Snapchat unveils its first hardware: the Spectacles

Sunglasses that lets you send ‘snaps’.

Snap Inc. (formerly Snapchat) surprised everyone by introducing Spectacles, a new type of sunglass that can record videos in 10 second intervals.

The connected pair of sunglasses include a button that will instantly record what you see. It includes a 115 degree field of view that should mimic what the human eyes sees.

It’s available in black, teal and coral and can record up to 30 seconds of video in any time, and can instantly sync while your smartphone is connected to the Spectacles. All recorded videos are added to your Snapchat memories. Just like any other device, the Spectacle is rechargeable and should last for about a day.

At the moment, there has been mixed reactions on Snapchat users about the Spectacles – considering that it feels like the device is another Google Glass competitor. At $130, it definitely cost less than Google Glass, but we still don’t know its exact purpose yet.

You also have to consider that such devices are banned in the UAE (or the Middle East for that matter) so we’re not exactly too excited about the Spectacles.

Would you use something like the Spectacles? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
