Facebook and Instagram will tell you if you’re using it too much

New tools are being introduced to show you much time you’re spending on an app.

In a recent announcement, both Facebook and Instagram have introduced new management tools that will help you manage the time you spend on the social networks. This will hopefully help you limit the time you spend on each app which in turn could help you live a healthier digital lifestyle.

On Facebook and Instagram, simply head to their respective settings menu and looks for ‘Your Activity’ on Instagram and ‘Your Time of Facebook’ on the Facebook app. From the top, a dashboard will then show you the amount of time you’ve spent browsing the app.

Additionally, you can then set a daily reminder to let you know if you’re using too much of the app. From here you can also mute notifications to keep you from constantly checking on your phone.

“It’s not just about the time people spend on Facebook and Instagram but how they spend that time. It’s our responsibility to talk openly about how time online impacts people — and we take that responsibility seriously. These new tools are an important first step, and we are committed to continuing our work to foster safe, kind and supportive communities for everyone,” Facebook said in a blog post.

The company also concluded that it is strengthening its initiatives for suicide prevention through the expansion of proactive detection on users.

The new updates should start rolling out soon to all Instagram and Facebook users.
