ICYMI: Twitter launches revamped verification process

Just last week Twitter has officially launched a new verification process that will provide better transparency and credibility on user accounts on Twitter. This follows the launch of a new policy that was shaped by public feedback in Arabic, English, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese. This includes the automatic removal of the verified badge on accounts that no longer meet the updated criteria for verification or accounts that are inactive or incomplete.

Along with this, Twitter is also introducing new guidelines once your account has been verified. These new guidelines were introduced in a bid to encourage healthy conversations for the Twitter community. As before, verified accounts that repeatedly violate Twitter Rules will have their blue mark removed.

To quality for verification, Twitter users need to fit in one of these six categories:

  • Government
  • Companies, brands, and organizations
  • News organizations and journalists
  • Entertainment
  • Sports and gaming
  • Activists, organizers, and influential individuals

A new verification policy was also introduced that included specific guidelines for each category. Accounts applying for verification should also have a complete profile name, profile image, a confirmed email address, and a phone number. These accounts should also be active within the last six months with a record of adherence to the Twitter Rules.

If you’re interested in getting your profile verified, you can go inside your Account settings and apply. Twitter is gradually rolling out the feature at the moment so don’t worry if you still haven’t seen it on the app.
