Instagram gets new Live features

November 2, 2020

Longer broadcasts and support for archived live streams.

Instagram is ramping up its efforts to its live streaming service. The popular social media platform has gone beyond just the simple photo-sharing app, and now offers various ways on how you can engage with your friends and followers.

The first change Instagram is making is the extension of live streams from the initial 60 minutes to four hours. This was made to help people like instructors to have more time to engage in virtual classes which have now become a norm given the current situation. Instagram says that every user around the world will be able to use the new live stream features as long as they don’t have any history of IP or policy violations.

Additionally, Instagram is also adding the ability to archive live streams for up to 30 days, which is similar to the way Stories and Posts are archived. A new ‘Live Now’ section within IGTV will also be updated as Instagram said that Live has had increased usage over the past few months.

Look out for the new live stream updates on your Instagram app on iOS and Android.
