To put more emphasis on the content shared, not the likes received.
Instagram has already considered removing the like count on images shared, so users can focus on the actual content that their friends share, not the likes they receive. It’s an unreleased feature and was only discovered by code hunter Jane Wong who pointed out the rather controversial feature.
Instagram did say that it hasn’t tested the feature yet, but the appearance of the code does confirm that they could possibly put that feature in the future.
Instagram is testing hiding like count from audiences,
as stated in the app: "We want your followers to focus on what you share, not how many likes your posts get" pic.twitter.com/MN7woHowVN

Which technically makes sense since most of the posts nowadays on Instagram and other social media networks is still about the numbers. More likes bring some sort of satisfaction for social media-obsessed users. It’s interesting to see how users will react if the like count is removed.
Don’t worry though, the user who posted the image will still see the number of likes it gets and since it is not even sure if it will be implemented, but it is an interesting feature that will definitely affect the platform in a big way.
