Instagram launches tool to restore deleted posts

February 3, 2021

A ‘recently deleted’ folder is rolling out.

Instagram is rolling out a new tool that will let you bring back deleted posts. A ‘recently deleted’ feature on the app will allow you to see previously deleted posts, stories, reels, and IGTV videos for up to 30 days and restore them in case you change your mind.

Instagram said that this was made as a way to easily restore content when your account has been hacked. In most scenarios where accounts get hacked, they are usually deleted and this tool should now make it easier to restore these posts. Additionally, users need to confirm their accounts via SMS or email to be able to permanently delete or restore the content as part of a security measure.

Posts deleted will stay in the recently deleted folder for 30 days after which it will finally get deleted permanently. As for Stories, it will only appear in the recently deleted folder for 24 hours before it gets permanently deleted.

Deleted posts can be accessed by going to Settings > Account > Recently Deleted.
