Instagram rolls out QR code support for profiles
August 19, 2020

Easily share profiles using a QR code.

A new update to Instagram that has just rolled out will now let you create and share QR codes for profiles. The update lets you scan a QR that directly takes you to a specific profile.

Instagram technically had this feature before, but the problem is that it generated a proprietary QR code that can only be scanned by Instagram’s built-in camera. This new QR code is more universal, meaning that anyone will be able to scan and share it and won’t be restricted in the app.

Since most devices can now scan QR codes without the need for an extra app, this new feature will make it easier for individuals and even businesses to share profiles – especially ones with long names. It saves time in letting you type the address, and simply just scan to see them.

If you want to generate your own QR code, simply head to the settings menu on the Instagram app and look for the QR code option, which now officially replaces the Nametags system used previously.
