Instagram’s TikTok competitor Reels arrives in the Middle East

Record and share short-form videos.

In an announcement made during House on Instagram, the popular Facebook-owned service has announced that Reels is finally making its way to the Middle East today, March 15th at 7 pm. Reels is a short-form video sharing feature that was made to compete with TikTok.

Reels aims to liven up your feed by introducing access to music to add as a soundtrack to your video. The feature was introduced last year to Instagram users and then rolled in phases around the world. Reels lets you film and edit up to 30-second multi-clip videos that you can share with your followers as well as through a dedicated Reels tab on the Instagram app. Reels will give you access not just to audio, but a plethora of other tools to create your multi-clip video. This includes AR effects, timers, countdowns, as well as alignment and speed control tools.

“Self-expression and versatility are part of the creative DNA of the region’s Gen Z and millennial population. As one of the primary platforms for this group of creators, we have always sought to adapt our features to what they need. With Reels, they now have more leverage when it comes to creating and sharing short-form content. Reels provides our community with greater freedom and flexibility to innovate, experiment, and elevate their content, and we cannot wait to discover a new generation of talent via the feature,” said Samer Jamal, Strategic Partner Manager at Instagram MENA.

The release of Reels follows Instagram’s launch of Music last week to all users in the Middle East.
