Reddit has just announced a new audio-based service called Reddit Talk that comes as a direct competition to Clubhouse. This joins the growing list of audio-based services that were launched by companies like Facebook and Twitter that is meant to hop into the increasing popularity of audio-based conversations that started with Clubhouse.

Similar to Clubhouse’s interface, Reddit Talk will be featured inside subreddits, where moderators can initiate a ‘Talk’. From there, the hosts are able to invite, mute, or even remove speakers. Currently on a beta phase, Reddit Talk is accessible on both iOS and Android platforms.

Reddit did say that it plans to expand on the features of Reddit Talk soon and that it is starting the service small with only moderators being able to start conversations. In the future, more users will be able to join in without moderator approval. It is also looking into how it can further customise Talks as a way to make conversations more lively.

You can add yourself to the waitlist if you’re interested, and you could possibly get a chance to try out the feature for yourself.
