Snap has just officially launched its new entertainment platform Spotlight in markets across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Starting today, users in the region will be able to access Spotlight which can be seen by more than 75 million users. Spotlight can help empower the Snapchat community and express themselves and reach a large audience in a new way.
Spotlight will house the most entertaining Snaps from the community and will be tailored to each Snapchatter over time based on their preferences. Spotlight’s user-generated content within Snapchat has welcomed over 100 million users as of January this year, two months after it has been released.
Spotlight was launched as a way to entertain the community while living up to the values of Snapchat, with wellbeing as a top priority. Even as anyone can share their own Snaps, the content is also moderated and does not allow public comments.
Additionally, Snap’s earning program will be available in MENA, which celebrates and rewards the creativity of local Snapchatters with a chance to earn a share of millions of USD every single month. You do need to be 16 or older to start earning, as well as obtain parental consent.
“Across our region specifically, Snapchatters have long understood the holistic value proposition of the platform–whether in chat, maps, stories, or content–but have been asking for ways to share their content more broadly. Spotlight is thus an exciting new addition, a result of careful thought and insight into what our community wants, likes, and values. It is also built with our privacy-by-design philosophy, with the wellbeing of our community front and centre. Our hope is that Spotlight continues to break down barriers to content creation and by democratising both distribution and the ability to earn, encourages Snapchatters to be creative and express themselves,” Hussein Freijeh, general manager of Snap Inc. in the Middle East.
It was also revealed that consumption rates on Snapchat in the MENA region are always higher than the global average with over 85 per cent of users in the MENA interacting with Lenses every day.
Spotlight is now available in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Palestinian Territory, Libya, and Iraq.
