Google Maps to get COVID-19-related navigation features

June 10, 2020

A helpful way to navigate during a pandemic.

it is without a doubt that Google already is one of the best navigation apps available and actually one of the preferred apps for use here in the UAE and is now getting a very useful feature.

Google Maps will soon include various COVID-19 alerts when you use it. This can be in the form of a road closure or reduced timings or even updated transportation schedules. Other data will also include the ability for you to check and verify COVID-19 testing centers that warn you about eligibility to avoid being turned away.

Google Maps will also let you know how crowded public transportation is – this includes buses, subways, and even stations. It will also let you know when a place is normally full or empty based on previous data to help give you an estimate on how to plan your journey.

Google says that it is working with local government entities to make the data as accurate as possible. This new feature will launch in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, France, India, Mexico, Netherlands, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom, and the US, but has promised that more countries will also be supported soon – hopefully that includes the UAE.

Google Maps is a free app available on iOS and Android devices.
