Will focus on Messages instead.
In the past days, there were floating rumors that Google is planning to discontinue Allo following the announcement that it is pausing investment on the messaging app. It is now known that Google Allo will be available until March of next year, and will no longer work after that period.
Google is now putting the focus on its Messages app, which will inherit most of the AI-related features of Allo. Google has also said that existing chats on Allo can be exported before it gets discontinued.
“Earlier this year we paused investment in Allo and brought some of its most-loved features—like Smart Reply, GIFs and desktop support—into Messages. Given Messages’ continued momentum, we’ve decided to stop supporting Allo to focus on Messages,” Google said in a blog post.
Allo was launched a couple of years ago with Duo as an alternative to messaging and video calling apps. While Duo gained momentum and has a become one of the top apps for video calling, Allo, unfortunately, didn’t meet the same fate.
