More ways to livestream.
Instagram has just launched a new Live Rooms feature that will now allow you to go live with up to three other users simultaneously. That means all four of you will be able to video chat on a live broadcast, a way that Instagram says will inspire collaboration and or even a ‘jam session’.
Instagram says that Live Rooms can allow for larger audiences, especially since everyone participating inside the room will be seen by each of their followers. It’s likely that Instagram added this feature to compete with Clubhouse, though the app is audio-based. What’s more, Clubhouse is currently on an invite-only basis to join, while Instagram clearly has more than a billion users.
“Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, we’ve seen people on Instagram embrace Live in different ways. In the past year, special moments have happened on Live, including informational talks about science and COVID-19 guidelines, interviews with celebrities, and record-breaking rap battles. Creators of all kinds — from fitness instructors to musicians, beauty bloggers, chefs, and activists, all relied on Live to create moments and bring people together to reach their communities in creative ways,” Instagram said in a blog post.
Live viewers will also be able to purchase badges for creators to show support, and Live Rooms also have interactive features like Shopping and Fundraisers. Instagram says that it will be adding additional tools like moderator controls and an audio feature in the next couple of months.
Instagram Live Rooms is now rolling out to users worldwide.
