Watch those movies faster than ever.
If you find yourself not finding enough time to binge-watch that TV series or that 3-hour movie, maybe playing with the playback controls could help. When I want to see a movie, I usually mingle with the playback controls so that I can watch the movie at a faster speed so it can finish at an earlier time.
Thankfully, Netflix is putting new speed playback controls on its app after testing it for a while now. The feature is rolling out on Android devices first, with iOS users getting it in just a few weeks.
A report by The Verge confirms that the new feature is coming to the native Netflix app. From there, users will be able to watch content at 0.5x, 0.75x, 1.25x, and 1.5x speeds. These functions need to be turned on before watching and will reset with every new session that you start on Netflix.
“We’ve also been mindful of the concerns of some creators. It’s why we have capped the range of playback speeds and require members to vary the speed each time they watch something new — versus fixing their settings based on the last speed they used,” Netflix said in a statement.
The new speed playback controls were also commended by deaf and blind users since slowing down or speeding up playback makes it easier for disabled users to understand what they’re watching.
Netflix is also actively taking feedback to see how they can improve the feature more. Speed playback support is now rolling out to the Android app, with the iOS app being updated at a later date.
