You can now use your Canon camera as a high-quality webcam

Use the EOS Webcam Utility.

You can now start using your Canon DSLR camera into a high-quality webcam thanks to the EOS Webcam Utility which Canon is releasing today. The software, compatible with PCs and Macs, will allow you to connect compatible Canon DSLR and PowerShot cameras via USB and then use it as a webcam. This will make it easier for you to use a high-quality camera as a camera source when doing your meetings and conferences online.

Canon said that the new trend of working from home is what inspired them to develop the EOS Webcam Utility. The free software is easy to install and configure, where you can immediately set it as the default camera source on your computer.

While you can argue that the built-in webcam on your laptop could be good enough, it won’t match the same quality given by Canon cameras. Canon says that sensor features on supported cameras allow for increased detail on video calls, and immediately focuses the subject and improves low-light performance.

“We have a commitment to our customers around the world to provide the best in technical excellence and innovations, through our cameras, lenses, accessories, and software. During these unprecedented times, Canon is harnessing the power of EOS technology to bring people together and provide a high-performance solution our customers can trust,” said Issei Morimoto, Senior Vice President of Product Management at Canon Europe.
