You can soon start blocking artists on Spotify
January 22, 2019

So you don’t have to see R. Kelly on recommended playlists.

Spotify has started testing a new feature that will let users block artists from appearing in their account. This means that blocking a particular artist would mean that their songs would no longer appear on Daily Mixes, Discover Weekly or any of the search fields or charts.

Blocking a specific artist would also mean that you won’t be able to play music even when you manually select it. However, if the blocked artist is featured on another song, it won’t be blocked. The function can be seen when you head to the artist page. From there you can select the option ‘Don’t play this artist’ to block them.

The artist blocking feature will initially appear on the iOS version of Spotify, but it should also roll out to Android users soon.
