Sonos have introduced Sonos Arc, the premium smart soundbar that brings immersive, cinema-quality sound to homes around the world. Arc builds on Sonos’ industry-leading innovations in home theater, with software-driven audio that immerses listeners in dramatic detail, crystal clear dialogue and impressive bass, featuring support for Dolby Atmos. More than a soundbar, Arc brings brilliant sound to anything you can stream, tuned for what’s playing from the TV to music, podcasts and radio when the TV is off.

The Arc’s Dolby Atmos sound field is generated by 11 Class D digital amplifiers that power 11 custom drivers. Eight of those drivers are elliptical woofers evolved from those in the Beam (four along the front, two on top and one in each end), while the other three are silk-domed tweeters that are all built into the front but with two firing diagonally into the room.

The Arc uses its array of speakers to bounce sound off your walls and ceiling to create a 3D audio effect, and the soundfield is once again tailored to your room using Sonos’ Trueplay technology. Despite the extra audio plane, the process is identical to that of the Beam: the soundbar outputs a series of test sounds that are measured by your iOS device, first from the listening position and then from around the room.

And the Dolby Atmos factor

Award-winning shows and movies are being streamed in homes around the world, now in even higher resolution sound. Today, more than 25 video streaming services and TV producers are serving Dolby Atmos content, making powerful home theater experiences more accessible in the living room. Tuned in partnership with Oscar-winning mixing engineers, Arc adjusts its sound profile through software, based on the home theater set-up and what’s playing, whether stereo, Dolby Audio 5.1, or Dolby Atmos.

Listeners can refine Arc’s sound in the Sonos app with features including Speech Enhancement to further clarify vocals, Night Sound to temper loud explosions, and an update to Sonos’ Trueplay tuning technology, adjusting Arc’s acoustic profile based on the room, accounting for horizontal and vertical sound that comes with immersive sound.

The Sonos Arc is available in matte black and matte white, and its own status light consists of LEDs that shine through four holes above the subtle Sonos logo (there are 76,000 holes in all the grilles combined). By default, these LEDs remain off most of the time and their brightness is tailored to the ambient light in the room even when they are lit (when adjusting volume, for example), so as not to appear too bright.T

The Sonos Arc is now available to pre-order in the UAE at Sharaf DG and DG+. For a peek at the device, visit DG+, Sharaf DG’s Flagship AV store at Time Square
