A two day battery life? Most welcome!
It’s finally official. The humble smartphone has gone 4K. At its IFA pre-show event today, Sony Chief Executive Kazuo Hirai announced the Xperia Z5 Premium Dual. This is the world’s first 4K smartphone coming with a 5.5” 4K Triluminos Display for mobile and IPS, meaning four times the resolution of Full HD.
Mr Hirai started off proceedings with references to Kando, or the need to move people emotionally, and how that must be reflected in any product line. He outlined the challenges the brand was facing, and interestingly hinted at how the image sensor division was an increasing focus for the brand, with an estimated 1.5 Billion Euros being set aside for research in the area.
Now the Xperia Z5 Premium Dual is an interesting addition to the brand’s portfolio. While an inevitable development at some point in the smartphone cycle, Sony seemed the best fit to announce such a device, with its visual display prowess.
The Xperia Z5 Premium Dual is designed from the ground up as a high-performance mobile device, also powered by the Snapdragon 810 processor. It has a 3430 mAh battery which the brand claims will enable up to two days juice, with quick charge capability. A 32GB internal memory apart, it can also support a 200GB external microSD card.
The Xperia Z5 Premium Dual headlines the Xperia Z5 Dual series, which will feature 1/2.3 Exmor RSTM for mobile 23MP sensor and F2.0 G Lens – Sony’s first completely re-imagined smartphone camera module since the Xperia Z1. The design palette is an interesting one, and kudos to the Sony’s Creative Center studios in Sweden and Japan. The 5.2” Z5 Dual Series have a metal frame and frosted glass back and will be available in White, Graphite Black, Gold and Green.
The brand also announced the Xperia Z5, a 4.6” device which will be available in colors including Yellow and Coral, in addition to White and Graphite Black. Both the Xperia Z5 Dual and Xperia Z5 Compact will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor.
Xperia Z5 Dual and Z5 Compact will launch globally from mid-October 2015, and Xperia Z5 Premium Dual from mid-November 2015.
