Spotify’s first hardware won’t be a speaker, but it still looks cool
April 8, 2018

An announcement will be made on April 24th.

We’ve heard earlier rumors that Spotify is looking to make its first hardware after a job listing was found online that the company is looking into hardware production. Everyone assumed that the company is making a smart speaker to rival the Apple HomePod, Amazon Echo, and the Google Home, but it looks like it will be an entirely different device.

Some users online, particularly on Reddit, have reported seeing popups of an advertisement showing Spotify’s first device. The device looks like it is made for cars, with a circular design that includes a (touchscreen?) display and two buttons for playback. Other noted features include 4G LTE support or the ability to tether it to your smartphone.

No other details were seen so we’re not sure if this device will come with a speaker or will it be an extension of the Spotify functionality found on your smartphone.

But that may be confirmed in a couple of weeks after Spotify announced that it will be holding a special news announcement on April 24th in New York City, which could indicate the new hardware.

Spotify is currently one of the top music streaming services in the world. Apple Music is also one of the top ones, but many still prefer Spotify. It’s not officially available in the UAE at the moment, though various workarounds now enable users here to enjoy the service.
