To launch later this year.
Spotify is currently one of the biggest music streaming platforms in the world, but a new feature is coming that users have been requesting for years. Announced during its ‘Stream On’ virtual event, Spotify is finally adding a lossless streaming tier called Spotify HiFi.
Spotify HiFi will let you stream music in CD-quality, a lossless audio format that you can listen to on your device or through Spotify Connect compatible speakers and receivers. This higher resolution audio option will allow users to hear music with increased depth and quality that was previously not available. At the moment, the highest bitrate available for Spotify users is 320kbps audio.
Other competitors like Amazon Music already have a lossless plan called Amazon Music HD as well as Tidal, which is already known for streaming music that goes beyond high resolution. Spotify HiFi won’t be free and will incur an additional cost on top of your Premium subscription. It’s certainly a great option for audiophiles – if you’re willing to pay more.
Spotify HiFi will launch later this year.
