The iPhone 6 gets the ultimate drop test

January 19, 2015

A 100,000 feet drop – literally from outer space.

We’ve all seen those drop tests on YouTube showcasing smartphones from Apple, Samsung and the like. There was even instances where these previous devices are thrown off a bridge, even placed on hot lava. But this drop test video takes it to the extreme.

As part of their campaign for their ultra-strong hard cases, Urban Armor Gear placed an iPhone 6 on one of their case and attached it to a balloon that saw it rise up to 100,000 feet up in the air reaching the stratosphere. The device came with two GoPro cameras, a GPS locator and another backup smartphone.

By the time the balloon popped because of the pressure, we see the smartphone crashing back down to Earth. A parachute was also deployed to lessen the impact, but as it comes down it faced freezing temperatures and windy situations. So what happened to the iPhone when it finally came down? It’s still working perfectly after a full charge (the freezing temperatures drained the charge).
