The Stormtrooper variant, please

Red Komodo Official Wait List Open.

Now statements like this make you realise how in a largely generic camera playing field, Red truly stands apart, appealing to the wildly imaginative word of commercial and documentary filmmakers who desire nothing but the best.. And after multiple Beta impressions, the 6K RED Komodo is available. And its coming to the UAE, courtesy our friends at Advanced Media.

The 6K RED Komodo is an interesting camera for a multitude of reasons. From the perspective of RED it is the smallest camera that it has yet produced, and it is also the first camera in the RED portfolio that shoots right out the box. Additionally, the camera also houses phase detection autofocus, a feature more traditionally found in mirrorless and DSLRs. At a $6,000 price point, Red and founder Jarred Land seem set on blurring the lines between amateur and professional filmmaker even further with the Komodo 6K.

In terms of specs, there is much to love on the Red Komodo 6K is very much exciting:

In terms of accessories for the Red Komodo 6K, we have a few on our favorites list:

Laowa cine lenses

Venus Optics has announced three new ultra-wide Laowa cine lenses for the Canon RF mount. Designed for use on the Canon EOS R5 & EOS R6, the RED Komodo and the new Canon C70 cinema camera, the three new RF mount lenses offer extremely wide-angle views with focal lengths of 9mm, 12mm and 15mm.

SmallHD Focus Pro Limited Edition monitor

For anyone who happens to have a white Stormtrooper version of the KOMODO, SmallHD has a Focus Pro Limited Edition monitor that is also white. The Focus Pro has a 5″ 1280×720, 800nit, 294 PPI touchscreen. The monitor features a milled aluminium chassis with three ¼”-20 mounting points.

Nauticam’s Komodo 6K housing has RED’s official seal of approval. The housing is built around Nauticam’s N120 Cinema port system, a platform shared by the company’s DSLR and cinema camera systems that allows the mounting of both DSLR and cinema lenses as well as easy integration with underwater optics like the WACP-1, WACP-2, SMC-1 and SMC-2. The housing supports the use of EF lenses via Canon’s adapters.  The housing allows the camera’s built-in monitor to be viewed through a window on the top plate. A version of the housing with the Shinobi Monitor Back—which houses a Atomos Shinobi SDI monitor (not included!)—is also available. Alternatively, it’s possible to connect the Atomos Shinobi or SmallHD 502 in a Nauticam external monitor housing.

For all those wondering how to get on the RED bandwagon with the Komodo 6K, there’s great news. The Red Komodo 6K is coming to the UAE. Head to Advanced Media, the official distributors of Red in the Middle East, to know more!
