The show has been a popular target for malware.
Everyone’s gearing up for the spectacular last season of Game of Thrones. But while many have been anxiously waiting for it, security experts are warning users on downloading bootleg copies of the hit TV show.
It is known that Game of Thrones is one of the most pirated TV shows, making a target by some hackers to install malware embedded into some torrent files. Some users can argue that they can spot these anomalies even before opening the file, but not everyone will be able to know if the episode they’re downloading is a legit copy without any surprise malware.
A report by security firm Kaspersky even mentioned that Game of Thrones-related content was behind a big percentage of infected downloads that affected more than 20,000 users. What’s interesting is this happened in 2018, when there were no new episodes of Game of Thrones.
That’s why we’d always suggest to watch it the legal way – even if that costs you money. After all, the cast and crew have poured their hard work on this so it’s fitting that they get recognized for their efforts.
