Yes, Pizza for everyone!
3D printing has revolutionized the way we make and product objects – from small toys to usable buildings. But 3D printing isn’t just for objects anymore, but is now also being utilized for food.
In fact, the BeeHex is a 3D printer that has one sole purpose – to print a pizza! Yes, the edible kind. Developed by engineers who was funded by NASA to build the device was made so that astronauts on board space stations can have food that’s equally appetizing and delicious as opposed to the normal packed food usually made for space travel.
The BeeHex will soon make its way to various establishments starting in the US early next year, and as you can see, the 3D printer is more efficient compared to human workers making pizzas.
Hooked up to a computer, you simply enter details as to what pizza you prefer: type of dough, sauce and even the cheese. Through an app, you can also monitor the progress of your pizza and in the future, restaurants can also use it to let you know the status of your pizza from 3D printing to delivery.
And pizza is just the start – pretty soon other items are on the list. This reminds me of the Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator” (FLDSMDFR) from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. The BeeHex started printing pizzas first since it was the easiest to do (because it’s flat).
