This website will crash any device using Safari

January 26, 2016

So that includes your Mac, iPhone and iPad.

There is a website circulating online that would crash your device if you try to visit it. The website, called CrashSafari.com, usually just affects Safari browsers – and that includes almost, if not all of Apple’s devices.

Other reports suggest that the bug affects even Google Chome and Mozilla Firefox. If you try and visit the website, you would usually get an ‘Application Not Responding’ message on Safari or if you do it on an iOS device, either the Springboard will restart or the phone itself will reboot.

9to5Mac has an explanation for the crash: “The page includes a header title (which you’ll never actually see because the browser crashes) and a small piece of JavaScript. The JavaScript calls the HTML5 History API thousands of times in a loop, essentially causing Safari to freeze.”

While they have also confirmed that the bug is present on the latest build of iOS and Mac OS X, it shouldn’t have any sort of security risk.
