Popular app may have obtained personal details from you.
Timehop, a popular app that finds and showcases older posts from your social media accounts, has been hacked. It was said that names, e-mails, and phone numbers were obtained.
“Timehop experienced a network intrusion that led to a breach of some of your data. We learned of the breach while it was still in progress, and were able to interrupt it, but data was taken. While our investigation into this incident (and the possibility of earlier ones that may have occurred) continues, we are writing to provide our users and partners with all the relevant information as quickly as possible,” the company said in a blog post.
It was revealed that data from more than 21 million users have been compromised – and while no images or access to social media pages were obtained, Timehop is still requesting everyone to be careful about the potential security risks that would come after the hack.
This includes hackers taking over your other accounts using your mobile number – so be wary of any messages that you may receive asking to confirm a certain transaction.
It was also revealed that Timehop never employed stricter login processes like two-factor authentication, which may have increased the risk of the accounts being vulnerable.
