Qantas Airways will soon offer VR headsets on their flights.

Australian carrier Qantas Airways will soon be offering Samsung Gear VR headsets to everyone flying first class on select flights. A trial period will run for three months, and will include 360 degree views of Melbourne and Sydney on their airport lounges along with some A380 flights from Australia to Los Angeles.

Olivia Wirth, Qantas Group Executive, Brand, Marketing & Corporate Affairs, said: “Whether the user wants a virtual tour of our new Los Angeles First Lounge or experience an A380 landing from the tarmac, this technology gives us a completely new way to connect with our customers.”

The Samsung Gear VR is the more affordable version of the Oculus Rift, which is mainly sold as an accessory to Samsung’s mobile devices.

With more than a couple of hours to spare especially on a long-haul flight, I wouldn’t mind wasting a few hours in another world.
