WhatsApp adds support for Face ID and Touch ID
February 4, 2019

You can now lock the app using your face or fingerprint.

WhatsApp has just received a substantial new update for iOS that will now let you lock the app using either Face ID or Touch ID on supported iPhones.

The function can be found by going to Settings, then heading on to Account and then Privacy. From there you can then see the ‘Screen Lock’ function that you can turn on.

Note that if you have previews enabled on the notifications, the text will still appear and you would still be able to reply directly from the notification center. But accessing the full app would require you to scan your face or fingerprint.

Hopefully, this is the start of more features being added to the app. Users have been asking for various features to be added on the popular messaging platform, including Dark Mode and support for multiple numbers.

Version 2.19.20 of WhatsApp is now available on the App Store as a free download.
