Asus’ new monitor dazzles and performs well above our expectations – read why.
UltraWide monitors aren’t that common – yet for some users, it’s the preferred choice when completing their PC setup at home or even office. It doesn’t just give you a wider field of view, but the larger and wider aspect ratio means you more screen real estate to work with.
That’s what Asus’ MX38VC offers. It’s basically an UltraWide 37.5-inch monitor with a 21:9 aspect ratio. It was launched as part of the Designo product range that offers a unique design – and it shows. There’s a silver-colored bezel along with a round base that actually includes a wireless charger.
There are no buttons on the MX38VC. Instead, below the Asus logo, you will find a joystick that is used to navigate the on-screen menu. The MX38VC is also curved for what Asus says is a more immersive visual experience.
Connectivity options on the MX38VC include DisplayPort 1.2, USB-C and dual HDMI ports. The USB-C port offers up to 60W of power, meaning that it can also charge compatible devices like a MacBook Pro for example. Additional ports include USB 3.0, Audio input and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Also built into the MX38VC are dual 10W speakers from Harman Kardon. The down-firing speakers have been optimized to deliver theater-quality audio, something that normal monitors can’t do. It even has Bluetooth, so you can use the speakers to stream music from your smartphone or tablet.
The MX38VC also has a blue light filter that you can turn on to help your eyes be less strained especially when you’re working at night. It even has Asus’ Flicker-free technology that can help minimize eyestrain.
I’m using a 27-inch full HD monitor at home, so the 37.5-inch MX38VC gave me a larger (not to mention wider) perspective. The UltraWide MX38VC comes in at 3840-by-1600 pixel UWQHD resolution. That’s wide enough to give you side-by-side views of any document or webpage and even add more on the side.
After a few calibrations, the MX38VC showcased brilliant colors and awesome contrast ratios. While it’s primarily tailored for a desktop, the MX38VC also includes gaming-centric modes that aid in giving you the best gaming experience.
I also didn’t realize how useful the wireless charger will be on the MX38VC. In the days I was using the monitor, I would casually place my smartphone over the wireless pad while it quietly charges. It even supports up to a 15W output, meaning that compatible devices can take advantage of the fast charging capabilities.
Asus’ Designo MX38VC perfectly blends a great monitor with a substantial amount of very useful features. Highly recommended.
