Built for supremacy.
Gaming monitors have steadily evolved from just being pricier displays. The Asus ROG Swift PG279Q is an example of a gaming monitor that takes your games to another level. Let’s have a look.
The PG279Q is a 27-inch gaming monitor that comes with a 2560 x 1440 pixel screen resolution. It’s an IPS panel, meaning that the display’s colors will look even whichever angle you view it in. Aside from the 4 ms reponse time, this monitor supports Nvidia’s G-Sync technology along with a maximum refresh rate of 165 Hz – probably one of the highest ones available on a display at the moment.
The PG279Q’s thin bezels make it a great display. It also comes with a large base that includes the Republic of Gamers logo which actually lights up when the monitor is turned on.
Most of the controls are located on the side, and includes a very useful joystick that lets you easily navigate the menus, instead of buttons that are usually confusing. The PG279Q also comes with built-in stereo speakers.
The PG279Q packs an HDMI and DisplayPort input along with two USB 3.0 ports. While that should be sufficient enough for most users, adding extra video ports would have been better. The good thing though is that Asus has bundled in HDMI and DisplayPort cables inside the package.
Inside the menus you will find the various customizations that you can use to suit your needs. There are GameVisualizer pre-sets that are optimized for every type of game and there is even levels of blue light filtering that can be used when you play at night. One notable feature is the overclocking feature that enables the PG279Q to achieve a refresh rate of 165 Hz.
After a bit of calibration, the PG279Q truly shows its potential. Images are spot on and some 4K videos I have played on the displayed showcased a brilliant set of moving images.
But of course, games is where the PG279Q truly shines. Games like Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Fallout 4 and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate truly benefitted with the high refresh rates. Animations are smoother, though my test rig consisting of an Intel Core i7 processor with an Nvidia GTX 980 Ti graphics card certainly helped.
With excellent color reproduction and a superb refresh rate, the Asus ROG Swift PG279Q sets the standard for gaming monitors everywhere.
