Design meets performance.
Ultrabooks are already known to deliver a lightweight body but the problem with most of them is that performance is usually hit and miss. With Asus’ line of ZenBooks, it has already proven that performance won’t be compromised thanks to the excellent design and hardware, which continues on its latest device, the ZenBook S13 UX392F.
From the outside, the 1.1-kilogram UX392F is small and compact, but don’t be fooled by its small size since the notebook actually packs a 13.9-inch display with a full HD resolution that’s gorgeous and bright, enough for you read text no matter what size. It’s crisp, clean and detailed and while it doesn’t support touch it’s unarguably one of the best displays we’ve seen from the ZenBook line.
There’s an island-style backlit keyboard that’s comfortable to type on, along with a trackpad that includes a fingerprint reader for that extra level of security. If I’m nitpicking I just wish they’ve moved the fingerprint reader outside the trackpad so it’s doesn’t take space.
There’s the standard USB 3.1 gen 2 port on the right side that sits next to a headphone jack, and there are two USB-C ports on the left side that’s also used for charging the UX392F plus a microSD card slot. These ports aren’t plentiful, but in my time with UX392F I realized I don’t really need extra ports since in my case, most of my documents are in the cloud. Just in case you’d need extra ports, Asus has actually included a USB-C dongle that gives you an additional USB-C, HDMI and USB-A ports.
The UX392F also has Asus’ Ergolift design that lifts the keyboard to an incline when you open up the screen. It gives more ventilation below the notebook while putting the keyboard in an ergonomic position. The notebook also includes integrated speakers from Harman/Kardon.
On the inside, the UX392F gets a decent set of hardware that includes an Intel Core i7-8565U CPU coupled with 16 GB of RAM and an Nvidia MX150 GPU. It runs Windows 10, and it works flawlessly in the weeks I spent with it. It handled my multitasking needs without a hitch, which made it a perfect companion when I was covering events and doing extra work on the weekends in the cafe.
On a single charge, I would normally get a standard of 4-5 hours on normal usage but I can easily stretch that to 8-9 hours when I’m using it to watch just movies. The battery life is decent and even if I need to charge, the power brick is just as light as the notebook so it’s not a problem bringing it along.
The Asus ZenBook S13 UX392F delivers on all fronts, offering a great design and performance that’s made for power users, which makes it one of our favorite ultrabooks available.
+ Excellent design and performance
+ Gorgeous screen
+ Acceptable battery life
– Fingerprint reader would’ve worked better if it wasn’t placed on the trackpad.
