Thin, light, powerful.

Asus’ ZenBook series somehow redefined the Ultrabook category by offering top of the line specifications along with a great design. This year, they’ve revised their current lineup to include faster internals along with more colors to choose from.

The UX303U belongs to the product line that uses matte displays that does not support touch – but personally it’s one of the ones I prefer using since I’m not a fan of touchscreen on notebooks.

Design-wise, the UX303U does look great thanks to the all-aluminum construction that gives it a durable look and feel. It weighs about 1.45 kilograms, which might be more than the usual Ultrabook, but it isn’t really a deal breaker.

Ports are scattered on the side, which includes USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, SD card reader, 3.5 mm audio jack and a mini DisplayPort for connecting to compatible displays. I love the island-style backlit keyboard design, which comes with a larger trackpad.

The UX303U comes in various specifications, but this particular unit we got review runs on an Intel Core i7 CPU along with 8 GB of RAM and a 1 TB hard drive. It uses the Intel 520 graphics for basic tasks and an Nvidia GeForce 940M chip for more demanding tasks. This particular model has a 13.3-inch screen with a 1920 x 1080 screen resolution (a 3200 x 1800 variant is also available).

Running the latest version of Windows 10, the UX303U did most of our tasks with ease. It even managed to run games with a decent framerate, though the aluminum build made it run hotter than the usual.

Battery life when tested ran about 6.5 hours after a full charge – and that when I was using it continuously for a day. It should last longer when used for watching or simply checking emails. It easily beats other Ultraportables when talking about battery life and for a notebook like this, it’s definitely a winning aspect.

The bigger and bulkier build somehow is a con, but it’s something we’re willing to live it considering the awesome design and great performance of the UX303U. The updated specifications (and color variations) of the Asus ZenBook UX303U easily make it a top choice for Ultraportables.
