BenQ W11000: Pixel perfect 4K goodness

March 14, 2017

Why get a big screen TV when you can get a projector instead?

BenQ’s new W11000 projector is the definition of pure cinematic performance. It’s THX-certified and supports ultra HD resolutions – 4K for short. This means that you can get four times the resolution offered by standard projectors (and displays) currently available.

We can give you numbers like 8.3 million pixel support, 14-element, 6-group lens array but overall it just means the projector is bright enough to deliver colors in lifelike quality. It’s so awesome in fact that when BenQ did a product reveal inside the cinema it managed to match the quality of a full sized home projector. The BenQ W11000 uses DLP projector technology – sounds familiar? It’s actually the same technology used by IMAX on their screens.

The back houses a plethora of inputs that will let you connect a PC, console, or even a Blu-ray player. To see its capabilities I’ve hooked it up to an Xbox One S (connect it to the HDMI 2.0a/HDCP 2.2) port and sampled some of the 4K Blu-rays I have in my collection. The result? I ended up watching about 6 hours of content in 4K because of the excellent clarity and detail produced by the projector.

The only caveat is that it’s a 20,000 AED, 14 kilogram projector – so unless you’re looking for a true-to-life 4K experience, we’d suggest looking for a cheaper alternative.
