BenQ ZOWIE XL2740: Gaming gets serious

July 5, 2018

Let’s check out BenQ’s latest gaming monitor.

We’ve reviewed a fair number of BenQ monitors here at T3 Towers, but the one thing we’ve noticed about the company is how consistent they are in delivering the best products. This new monitor we have for review belongs to the current Zowie line designed for eSports, where its features and performance make it one of the best we’ve tested.

The BenQ Zowie XL2740 has features that are built for gamers: high refresh rate and a faster response time. Even its design echoes the previous Zowie monitors we’ve tested in the past. The design is pretty straightforward, and the included base of the BenQ Zowie XL2740 lets you view from any angle possible.

The BenQ Zowie XL2740 includes a DVI port, DisplayPort, and dual HDMI ports. There are also USB 3.0 ports to connect extra peripherals along with audio ports on the side.

Like previous Zowie devices, this monitor also includes ‘Shields’ that can place on the sides of the display for more privacy. There is also a headphone hangar on the side so you can conveniently hang your headphones when not in use.

The BenQ Zowie XL2740 comes in at 27-inches and features a full HD resolution of 1920-by-1080 pixels. It features a high 240 Hz refresh rate, meaning little to no lag when playing your games. Since this monitor is aimed at professional eSports gamers, the slight bump in refresh rates could be a matter of winning or losing.

Other features on the BenQ Zowie XL2740 include Black eQualizer that improves visibility on darker games along with the preset game modes that you can immediately apply when you play. The monitor also includes an ‘S-Switch’, which is an easier way of switching between profiles and inputs. While you can also change various settings the usual way using buttons on the monitor, the S-Switch did make it easier to access these controls.

I connected the BenQ Zowie XL2740 through my own PC running on a Nvidia GTA 1080 card using HDMI. I also connected the monitor to an Xbox One X to see its performance on a console.

True to their promise, the BenQ Zowie XL2740 delivered – virtually no lags, screen tearing or even blurriness was present on the game I’ve played. But the monitor’s features aren’t limited to just gaming, other profiles help optimize it for other stuff like watching movies.

The BenQ Zowie XL2740 excels as an eSports monitor and is jam-packed with features. The 2,299 AED isn’t for everyone, so unless you’re a true gamer there are always cheaper alternatives. That being said, we still love the BenQ Zowie XL2740 and it stands as one of the best gaming monitors we’ve tested.

We Love:

+ Excellent features

+ Great performance

+ S-Switch makes it easier to configure the monitor

We Hate:

– Price isn’t for everyone

Final Rating: 4.5/5
