Let the race begin.
Mario Kart 8 finally makes it way to the Nintendo Switch years after it debuted on the Nintendo Wii U. It’s an awesome fun-filled game, which still translates to this updated version made for Nintendo’s latest console. Aptly named Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, this version brings in extra modes, characters and ALL the previous DLC released in the past years.
For Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, there are 48 tracks available for you to try out, giving you and your friends hours of playtime. It’s still the same Mario Kart 8 game from years ago, but now you have 42 characters to choose from – along with some new ones. There are also various vehicle parts for you to play around when assembling your vehicle. This includes the body, wheels and glider where it’s up to you to fine tune the parts to find the best combination.
While the original Mario Kart 8 needs you to play through the game to unlock other parts, the Nintendo Switch version starts will almost everything available to you. This version also introduces a revamped battle mode, which was my favorite. In battle mode you get to choose between Balloon Battle, Renegade Roundup, Bob-omb Blask, Coin Rush and Shine Thief.
There is also an option to play the game with multiple players whether on a single Switch, or between other Switch users. You also have the option to play online with other players, though connection is mostly spotty.
Graphics was excellent too – even at 720p offered on the Switch’s display (resolution bumps up to 1080p when connected to a TV). Everything about Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was awesome, well maybe expect the price.
Here in the UAE, retail stores offer the game at around 289 AED (you can get it for cheaper) but considering that this isn’t really a brand new game there’s no point in charging a lot for basically the same gaming experience.
Still, the fun characters, awesome graphics and fun gameplay still make it one of the best titles to own on the Nintendo Switch.
